Welcome to River Side! We are a small, family run farm located in the rolling hills of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. With a strong emphasis on family and friends, you’ll find yourself in an incredibly fun and welcoming environment the moment you step out of your vehicle! You can expect warm nickers, lots of laughter, A LOT of coffee, good conversation, and a great experience. You won’t find yourself in a large barn with a revolving door of horses. Instead, you’ll find 1-3 good minded “sale” horses and our own personal horses! We like to make sure horse “shopping” is a “no pressure” experience for all our clients. One thing you will never experience is a push or aggressive sales pitch to buy one of our horses. We don’t need to tell you how great your prospective horse is, we let THEM show you! We believe connection between horse and rider is incredibly important and should always be upheld in the highest regard. Our duty is to make sure horse and rider are on the same page and will compliment each other for years to come. Every horse that is in our barn is a part of our family. We ride them ourselves, feed them ourselves, hug them ourselves, and shed a tear when each one leaves. They are OUR horses until the day they leave, giving us the opportunity to truly get to know them.
We believe in passive leadership and positive reinforcement when working with all horses. Never teaching through fear or excessive pressure, our goal is for both human and horse to have a clear and effective ability to communicate. Our program is simple. We instill kindness, quietness, consistency, and dependability in ourselves in order to clearly communicate with each and every horse. Using equine and human psychology is THE foundation of everything we do here. We work with with the brain, not against it.
Above it all, we are here for our love of horses and to leave a positive impact on the equine industry. Too often we hear of clients that bought horses from dishonest sellers. We also have been subject to that. Kaley had received a horse for a friend who was said to be dead quiet and a great trail horse. Quickly we realized that the horse had a bolting issue. While riding outside of the ring, the horse bolted with Kaley under low hanging trees and broke several bones in her spine, dislocated her shoulder, and caused internal organ damage. Although the experience was unfortunate and rather uncomfortable, it's OUR job to make sure these things are weeded out in sale horses. Kaley is thankful every day that it was her on that horse and not someone else. This is part of the job and it's something we take seriously. Like you, we work hard for our money and value our safety. It's our mission to make sure your buying experience is the best it can be. At the end of the day we are horse owners like yourself. Yes, ourselves, friends and family have been taken through the wringer when buying horses. We get it, we do. That's why River Side Performance Horses started. To bring you quality and never quantity. To offer a partner and not a servant. To educate never too misguide. To build confidence, never too ridicule.
We are proud of our little program and work diligently to continue or education as well as our reach within the equine community. Our goal is never to move horses as fast as possible, but it is our responsibility to find them proper homes and learn something from each one. And maybe have a little too much fun on them ourselves!
Here at River Side, we truly can not wait to meet you! Take a look around and check out our horses! Please feel free to text, call, or email at any time. Seriously, we're good at talking! Happy riding!
